Men rob ice cream man in Rock Hill, one caught.

ROCK HILL – Rock Hill police officers say a man selling ice cream chased down two other men who tried to rob him.

According to the police report the victim was dropping off his ice cream cart near Amelia Avenue in Rock Hill when he was approached by two men who asked to buy ice cream.

The police report says the two men handed the victim a counterfeit $20 bill and when he refused to take the money or give them ice cream, is when police say the suspects grabbed the victim's fanny pack and took off running.

Officers say the victim went after them, and was ultimately able to help police catch one of those men.

Evans Pierre is now charged with strong armed robbery.

'Beware of Zombies' sign warns to upstate drivers

FORT MILL, S.C. (WBTV/AP) - Motorists on a road near the South Carolina-North Carolina state line have been warned to watch for zombies, hunters and tanks.

According to the South Carolina Department of Transportation, electronic signs on state Highway 160 near Fort Mill that usually warn of traffic construction or wrecks had a very different message early Sunday morning.

One sign read "Zombies Ahead" and then flashed "Watch for Hunters." On the other side of the road, a sign warned motorists to "Be alert for Tanks."

Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Billy Elder says someone apparently tampered with the signs sometime before 4 a.m. Sunday.

Kentwood Drive closing for utility work

ROCK HILL, SC (WBTV) - Kentwood Drive will close today near the intersection of Mount Gallant Road for electrical work. 

A spokesman from Rock Hill City Utilities told WBTV that the work should be complete by March 25th.

Motorists will need to use Eden Terrace to access Kentwood Drive until work is complete.  In case of inclement weather, this work may be rescheduled.

Missing Fort Mill woman found, to be reunited with family

FORT MILL, SC (WBTV) - A woman missing since March 4th, has made contact with police who were investigating her disappearance.

Saturday evening, Fort Mill Police Captain Bryan Zachary said Margaret Debellotte-Torres was in the Miami area and was en route to the Tampa area to be reunited with family.

Debellotte-Torres' car was found abandoned in Charlotte along  South Boulevard. Police say her ex-husband had reported her missing.

Unemployment up across NC as Hickory region has highest rate

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - The unemployment rates went up in every county of North Carolina except one during the month of January, and the region with the highest unemployment number is the Hickory-Lenoir-Morganton area.

The Employment Security Commission of North Carolina released a report on Friday which indicates that unemployment rates went up 99 of the state's 100 counties.

Twenty-three counties have unemployment rates between 5 percent and 10 percent. However, 77 counties have unemployment rates at 10 percent or above.

In the Hickory-Lenoir-Morganton region, the unemployment rate is the highest in the state at 12.8 percent, up from 12.4 percent.

In the Charlotte-Gastonia-Rock Hill region, the unemployment rate is 11.1 percent, up from 10.7 percent.

The number of unemployed people in January was 463,492 workers, compared with 428,495 in December.
