Teen, father part of trio arrested for burglary ring in NC & SC | Crime

YORK COUNTY - Two York County men are behind bars, a third is on the loose, after police in both North and South Carolina connected them to a string of commercial burglaries in the area.

According to a joint press release from the York County Sheriff’s Office and Shelby Police Department, the two men were arrested last Thursday for crimes that occurred in 2009 and 2010. 18-year-old Shawn Douglas Hefner and 29-year-old Thomas Douglas Barr were arrested at their homes in York County, deputies say.

A third man, 37-year-old Douglas Scott Hefner, has not been located and is wanted on multiple arrest warrants.  Douglas Hefner is Shawn Hefner's father, deputies told WBTV.

The Shelby and Hickory Police Departments say the three men are each facing seven counts each of Breaking and Entering, Larceny and Safecracking.  Douglas Hefner and Thomas Barr are also suspected in the 2009 burglary of Radio World in Rock Hill.  

According to the release, law enforcement officials were able to recover eight stolen vehicles and a large amount of stolen electronics that included computers, cameras, GPS units, TV’s, gaming systems and video games. The investigations determined that stolen merchandise was being sold on EBay, Craig’s List and at local flea markets.

Shelby police say the trio is responsible for robberies at Sally's Beauty Supply, Dollar Tree, Today's Nails, American General, Radio Shack and Game Stop.

Property has been confirmed stolen from York County, Shelby, Hickory and Asheboro, North Carolina. As the investigation continues, additional jurisdictions and law enforcement agencies may become involved and may result in additional charges.

Shawn Hefner and Thomas Barr are being held at the Moss Justice Center, Douglas Hefner has not been located.  He is wanted for warrants for Grand Larceny, Burglary and Criminal Conspiracy.
