ROCK HILL - A pregnant Rock Hill woman is facing assault charges after police say she attacked a man with hairspray while shoplifting at a beauty supply store.
According to Rock Hill police, officers were called to the Cherry Beauty Supply along Cherry Road on Thursday afternoon. When officers arrived, they spoke to a man who had blood dripping from his head.
Witnesses told police that Alexis Sade Hayes, 23, attempted to steal several items from the store and place them in her purse. When a male employee attempted to stop her and grabbed the purse, she hit him in the head with a can of hairspray, officers say.
That's when officers say she ran from the store, dropped the purse and was seen driving away.
The employee who was attacked had blood on his face and shirt, police told WBTV, and was taken to Piedmont Medical Center for treatment to his head injuries.
Hayes was pulled over along Cherry Road and told officers that she was just defending herself. She was also transported to the hospital because she is pregnant and having abdominal pain.
She was later arrested, police said.
