York County athlete sets National Special Olympics record

YORK COUNTY - A Special Olympian from York County has set a new record during this week's Special Olympics national games.

21-year-old Scott Rohrer shot a 71 during golf competition on Monday at the games in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Rohrer was playing at the Highlands Course in individual 18-hole play.  His score broke the Special Olympics record by two strokes.

Rohrer joins 253 Special Olympics golfers and coaches from across the country at National Games.

A total of 3,000 athletes are competing this week in one of fifteen different sports. South Carolina is represented by a delegation of 150. 

Team South Carolina arrived in Nebraska on Saturday, July 17th and will return to Columbia in Saturday, July 23rd.
