ROCK HILL, SC (WBTV) - A Charlotte man was taken to the Rock Hill city jail after tossing a cigarette butt from his car window.
22-year-old Frank Pate, of Thornfield Road in Charlotte, and a passenger were stopped on Anderson Road in Rock Hill for a littering violation. When police officers approached the driver, they immediately noticed a plastic bag containing marijuana.
According to a Rock Hill police report, the bag was stashed in the arm rest area of the driver's side door and contained 0.2 grams of the narcotic. Pate was detained while officers continued to search the vehicle.
"When [the passenger] exited the vehicle, a marijuana cigarette fell to the passenger side floorboard," the report stated. The "marijuana cigarette" measured 0.5 grams and was also recovered by the officers.
Pate was transported to Rock Hill city jail and was charged with possession of marijuana, his first offense. The passenger was not charged.
