Charlotte Checkers raise more than $14,000 for sick fan... have you joined the effort?

CHARLOTTE - There are just two days left to help the Charlotte Checkers help a sick SUPERFAN get medical treatment and relocate closer to his favorite team.

All month long, the Checkers have taken part in “Facebook Fandemonium 2,” an online fundraising initiative with the goal of raising $25,000 for Zach Bennett and his family.

Zach is a 10-year-old boy from Albany, N.Y. who suffers from neurofibromatosis (NF1). As former season ticket holders of the Albany River Rats, the Bennett family has established close relationships with many current Checkers players and is looking to relocate to the Queen City for better medical care.

For every new ‘like’ the Checkers get on their Facebook fan page, the team will donate $2 to the Bennetts, up to $25,000, as they continue to gather the resources needed to move to Charlotte.

CLOVER - The York County Sheriff's Office was called out to the town of Clover, after two boys reported seeing a 12-year-old girl who appeared to be kidnapped at a gas station.

According to a Sheriff's report, deputies were called to Nichols Store on 1510 East Highway 55 on Sunday afternoon in reference to a possible kidnapping.

The boys told deputies that they were walking past a tan Dodge Stratus when they saw a young girl with make-up on her cheeks and blue eye-shadow in the back of the car.  The boys told deputies that the girl kept staring at them and appeared to have been crying.

When the girl wiped the tears from her face, the boys say she was wearing handcuffs on her wrists and had rope tied around her arms, by her elbows.
